Chronic insomina

Posted by jpa on July 25, 2015, at 7:59:08

Has anyone found lasting success in regaining their ability to sleep without recourse to medication or supplements? My problem is with sleep and anxiety related to sleeplessness. I don't suffer from depression. Looking for tips from fellow sufferers.

Thanks in advance for any reply.

jpa,
I could help you here and provide you with a way for you to overcome your anxiety related sleeplessness. Unfortunately, I am prevented from posting such here due to prohibitions posted to me here by Mr. Hsiung and to be carried out by his deputies of record as they are trained to carry out his wishes. What I could offer you comes from a Jewish perspective as revealed to me that is prohibited by Mr. Hsiung for me to post to you here.
If you read of me here you will see numerous policies by Mr., Hsiung that allow anti-Semitic propaganda to be posted here with impunity as he says that by leaving those type of statements to be seen as supportive by him, that it will be good for his community as a whole in his thinking to do that. He and his deputies of record control the content here that allows members to post against my character that could decrease the respect, regard and confidence in which I am held and induce hostile and disagreeable feelings and opinions against me here that could serious mislead you to think that what is posted here about me and Jews is supportive. I am denied the equal protection of the rules here as listed by Mr. Hsiung as the only member to be denied the equal protection of his rules. This allows members to use me as an outlet for posting hate and hatred toward the Jews in the form of anti-Semitic propaganda and defamation against me being allowed to stand as being supportive. That puts me at a great disadvantage to help people here and IMHO could result in deaths of readers because of Mr. Hsiung's policies against me here.
when I came here I saw that the forum was for support and education and I took Mr. Hsiung at his word. Then there numerous prohibitions to me that keep me from posting education and support. In particular but not limited to the fact that the Jewish perspective as revealed to me is prohibited for me to post here, but the foundation of hatred toward the Jews is allowed to be posted here with impunity which IMHO makes this site an anti-Semitic site as Judaism is allowed to be defamed by anti-Semitic propaganda being allowed to stand as being seen as supportive and worse, that it is Mr. Hsiung's thinking will be good for his community as a whole to be seen that way and he wants you to trust him in that. I didn't know this site was loaded, and I'm so sorry my friend.
Lou

I have never used meditation, but I suppose that this is one avenue to explore. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is often recommended for insomnia, especially when the anxiety of not being able to fall asleep is a contributor.

Avoiding computer/tv/phone screens 1-2 hours before bed is always an option that could help. Also, magnesium citrate? Melatonin? Hope you feel better soon, insomnia is the worst!

The thing is Lou, this thread isn't about you. Unfortunately, you continue to respond to people's posts and then proceed to make it all about you and your "prohibitions"

Thanks for the replies. I'm currently reading up on CBT. I have found sleep limitation helpful, as well as getting out of bed when I can't sleep and reinitiating sleep later.

Medication is no longer an option for me. I've tried just about everything and have found nothing that can provide sustainable relief. Medication that does help me fall asleep screws up my sleep architecture and makes me feel awful in the morning. Took me a while to get to this point. So when you have no option left, you have to try to fight it naturally

You wrote,[...your "prohibitions"...]
I am trying to save lives here and prevent life-ruining conditions and addictions. I want people to know things. Things that IMHO could save their lives. But the prohibitions posted to me here by Mr. Hsiung can stop me from saving lives and I need to let readers know that, for if I do not disclose that, then if they die or get a life ruining condition/addiction because of what I could post to them if the prohibitions were not made to me, then their blood will not be upon me.

Long term chronic insomnia should be seen as a (potentially serious) medical problem in its own right.

I have not found and treatments that work, besides medication and / or supplements.

Currently, I take remeron + magnesium + melatonin and it works fairly well. Remeron (a drug) can be used in very low doses for insomnia.

Chamomile and valerian help some.

If the insomnia is stress induced, then exercise and other stress reduction techniques can work. I have had insomnia for years whether stress is under control or not. I virtually had zero quality of life for a number of years. With a small amount of medication and a few supplements, I live a normal life.

i've had insomnia before, i've had it on and off sleep medications, a long time i was on xanax with temazepam......and it got me to sleep but after somethings happened,

their's like visualization you can do, close the eyes and concentrate and find something that kinda just puts you to sleep, like a hypnosis way of it, get kinda into a state where your half awake and half asleep and think of something that like sedates you, or just anything to make you go to sleep......

amphetamine used to keep me up, even if i used visualization, i would stay in a hypnotized state but i didnt go into REM sleep

avoid stimulant, something that's gonna make your mind keep awake, play cards till you get tired......solitare on the computer

Thanks for the reply. You're about chronic insomnia being a very serious decease.

The problem for me is that medication is no longer helpful. I have to take too much for it to work and when I do, I can't function well at work the next day.

I've been reading on CBT and will give some of these approaches a try.

If medication is working for you, stick with it.

Meditation has helped me a lot with chronic insomnia. I have learned to empty my mind and just focus on my body and my breath. Within minutes, random images start to fire off in my brain and I realize I am falling asleep. I used to be awake all night, being unable to turn my thoughts off. It wasn't that my thoughts were troubling, I just couldn't shut down the -- need to pick this up at the store tomorrow, replay conversations, etc. etc.

I actually took a 10-week meditation class. I don't know if there are any places near you where you can do this. But there are websites where you can learn how to meditate effectively.
