Meditation has helped me a lot with chronic insomnia. I have learned to empty my mind and just focus on my body and my breath. Within minutes, random images start to fire off in my brain and I realize I am falling asleep. I used to be awake all night, being unable to turn my thoughts off. It wasn't that my thoughts were troubling, I just couldn't shut down the -- need to pick this up at the store tomorrow, replay conversations, etc. etc.
I actually took a 10-week meditation class. I don't know if there are any places near you where you can do this. But there are websites where you can learn how to meditate effectively.
