Long term chronic insomnia should be seen as a (potentially serious) medical problem in its own right.

I have not found and treatments that work, besides medication and / or supplements.

Currently, I take remeron + magnesium + melatonin and it works fairly well. Remeron (a drug) can be used in very low doses for insomnia.

Chamomile and valerian help some.

If the insomnia is stress induced, then exercise and other stress reduction techniques can work. I have had insomnia for years whether stress is under control or not. I virtually had zero quality of life for a number of years. With a small amount of medication and a few supplements, I live a normal life.
