It's about time!!!
Brown had no experience whatsoever to be given that job to begin with. It was strictly a political appointment. Did the Bush administration not think that an emergency would ever occur and they'd need someone very sharp and experienced in that position???? Of all the political jobs to appoint someone unqualified to ...... What were they thinking????

He's still got the job. They're just sending him back to D.C.

It just keeps getting better, huh?

Yes, that's what I'm reading and hearing.

Earlier today, I did hear he made remarks about "getting a good Mexican meal and a nice, stiff martini....," or words to that effect, when a reporter asked him what he was going to do first upon returning to DC.

Don't know for sure if this is accurate. If so, that's pretty freakin' insensitive, under the circumtances. He has evry right to do that, but to say it that way....that made me shake my head...:-(

Thinking of other people's feelings before one speaks, especially to the press, would be nice.

Maybe Mr. Brown needs some Babble civility lessons!

<sigh> But, then again, I'm sure he's under a lot of pressure, too, and people *don't* think when hugely stressed. It's a mess and then some.

He has a title and a nice paycheck still but no real responsibility - at least in relationship to Katrina. I bet it won't be long before he is eased out completely.

I just watched the Dateline show on what went wrong. Mind-boggling and very upsetting. FEMA was more of a hindrance than a help here initially. There were so many instances where help (manpower and supplies) was ready to go in to New Orleans but FEMA wouldn't let them. There was all kinds of paperwork and approvals that had to happen first so they sat there and waited and waited and waited before they could go in.

To quote another animated canine, "I may not be a smart dog but I know what roadkill is". And deservedly it seems.

The head of FEMA needs to be a compasionate, screw the paperwork person, I just can't imagine what was going thru this man's head. There are *still* countries ready to send aid waiting to hear back while the beaurocrats shuffle paper. It can't all be blamed on this one guy.

The whole thing is almost unbelievable, I read that the Canadian Mounties got there before anybody from FEMA!

The Mounties did arrive first in St. Bernard, one of the worst hit and underserved areas per one of the parish officials.

I also heard thru www.wwl.com or maybe wwwl.nola.com that one sheriff was told he needed to fax his request if he wanted it filled, in a parish that had no electricity or phone lines!!!

Yeah, there must have been a more "appropriate" position Bush could have rewarded him with. You know, I don't have a huge problem with patronage, as long as the person is truly qualified and competent for the job. When people are appointed to positions based solely on affliation, it does nothing but breed contempt and cynicism, and taints the reputations of those who have been appointed who are truly qualified for the positions they hold.

At work we receive flood insurance policy cancellation notices from FEMA. I do not work in insurance. So it doesn't surprise me that the head of FEMA didn't know anything about hurricanes or floods. Because his organization doesn't know investments from insurance.

Bet he knows how much a horse should eat. I won't get into our president being a horse's *** for hiring him in the first place.
