Hey, zonked posted a great post a month or two back. Can you find it in the archives?
Apparently the stress and hassle can be significant. Lawyers or counsels only take a percentage of a retro check only when their client wins.
It can take maybe three months even if the client needn't contest denial.
I haven't gone this route myself. I do know trying to talk to the IRS once made me snap. It was a crazy, bureaucratic maze, that organization.
