I didn't know that tarnation came from damnation.
I was reading about the first 10 years of Australia. It was a prison in a hostile and not understood environment, and all that the people wanted to do was get their hands on spirits. Sort of like today.
A windmill was sent out from Britain to grind corn with. It only had 2 sails but could grind 10 bushels a day. This continued until someone stole the remaining sails, probably to build a still with.
