Hey Alex- your working style sounds JUST like mine!
I try to start off each day with a little to-do list. so far my list has only gotten a few things crossed off. Went to T. Read the section of my Diss Proposal that outlines the data analysis I need to do on the data I just finished coding and entering (after 20 months). I'm trying to stay upbeat about it. ugh. Now I have a lab meeting from 2-4, a lecture to attend 4-5:30 (hope it's a fancy guest speaker so that they'll give us cookies or something). Finally- the main event: I am a dissertation fellow for this committee. I've never met this group of professors and scholars, (I know 2 or 3 of them). They are having a dinner to welcome me as will as the other diss. fellow and the handful of predoctoral fellows. Hmm. ordinarily, I might have a glass of wine to chill out. Now, I guess I'll just have to do some deep breathing. Hope dinner is not chicken. I'm sick of chicken. I want beef, or fish. I hope none of these committee members are Nobel Prize winners. It's entirely possible. Geez. Well, whatever. I've already cashed the check, so they're stuck with me.
so sometime after a dinner and a lot of awkward introductions, I will make my way home and proceed to get started on "work" after a quick e-mail check. Then after about 2.5 hours of responding to babble-posts, I will realize that it's bedtime and I haven't created my presentatiion for my meeting with diss. advisor that I postponed from last friday. barf-o-la.
n = 50. That's my mantra. I have naturalistic data from n = 50. That's a freakin' whopping accomplishment. Even if my advisor doesn't recognize it and gets impatient that I haven't analysed it all in full yet. well, she can just kiss my drugged patootie.
When is tea? I like this idea of "tea". Is it a meal? are there crumpets? What's a crumpet, anyway? I'm a tea snob, btw. I can converse in tea language, although lately my budget does not allow me to indulge in the more exotic varieties. just don't try to make me drink Pu-Erh, PLEASE. tastes like steeped decayed forest moss.
Perhaps I'll make me a cup of jasmine oolong to take to lab meeting. cya later. tater!
