Bush is working on getting an immunity bill for the telecom industry passed, to ensure that his data mining project doesn't end up in court.
I am sure that the information gleaned from that operation is comparable in terms of profit potential to the discovery and exploitation of a natural resource.
It would be a shame for Bush to risk his personal fortune in class-action lawsuits. He should have pressed for immunity sooner than last summer, by which time the Democrats were getting irate emails from their constituents about their conciliatory attitude to the president and his plans for ensuring a comfortable retirement.
I almost admire Bush's use of wiretaps. It is nothing like Nixon's tapping of those on his enemy list. Bush rightly sees privacy as the New Frontier to be opened up. Ever since the Sumerians invented the damned seal, too many secrets have been kept.-z
