In order to marginalise the extremist Islamic elements our leaders (excluding nice Helen Clark) have to demonstrate good faith, in a hundred and one areas, but first and foremost US foreign policy.
On the Iraq thing it is interesting to read about the creation of Iraq post WW1 and the parallels between the Iraqi respose to the British and the current thing. The errors of foreign policy make it harder for the moderate muslim elements in the middle east and in the west too.
The public face of decisionmaking about Iraq was so bereft of straight and honest talk. I suppose the real reasons were straightforward enough, I suspect something fairly dumb like 'we've got to do something'. How they compare themselves to WW2 leaders I dunno. Blair and Howard have been so evasive. And with Bush it feels like a Vietnam rerun in the denial of reality.I'll be onto the price of oil, the effects on the economy and climate change next. Time for a cup of tea.
DeclanWhat did I see written up on a wall in Canberra? 'These bad days will end'. Made my day.
