Are you using anything to minimize whatever instability going off parnate causes? Even xanax or small amounts some other mood stabilizer might temporarily take the edge off whatever's happening.

How much were you originally taking?

Going down slowly is a really smart idea--

Do you have plans for another AD, or are you planning to stay off ADs for a while?

oh jost
i wish i knew that to do next

the parnate has made me so sad
I cry at the slightest provocation
my conversations are so limited now
and i thought i was boring before
i am still on 20mg because my daughter and i are taking a trip this weekend and at least i know where my head is now.
i do take xanax
will the crying get worst?
i might have to go hide for a few days if it does
the staring into space
the chills

Hi, elanor roosevelt.

I was rereading some of your posts from the last five months or so. Just a few, so I probably missed a lot of what' been happening.

I experienced several of the problems you had with parnate.

There are a lot of changes in neurotransmitters after you go off parnate, and because different neurotransmitters shift at different rates, it can really throw off the usual way they interact. Reestablishing homeostasis can take a while, and be disruptive.

I don't think it will get worse-- but if it does, including the chills and intense sadness- it really makes sense to get something to make your moods more stable. I'm glad you're going slowly-- but it still can be rough.

My pdoc gave me a little seroquel (or maybe zyprexa) for a brief time--and after that, I mostly used xanax.

Have you made any plans for the future? How about Emsam? If you haven't, considered it, maybe you could? It's more energizing the parnate and while it disrupts sleep, and I did briefly have some more intense dreams-- they were nothing at all like parnate.

I'm sorry this is very hard.

Hey Jost,
Thanks for your kind words.
How long did you find the emsam to be helpful?

Jost,
I haven't read anything positive about emsam here. Was it helpful to you for long? Are you still taking it?

I think you can't decide whether a med is useful just based on what you read here. There are lots of reasons people do and don't post things at various points, so it's hard to know what the overall effectiveness of a drug is. It's enlightening-- lots of people's experiences are worth knowing--

For me, it worked very well. I'm off it now, for reasons unrelated to emsam, but I was on it for four months and hope to start again soon.

It was helpful the entire time I took it. I know there are other people who've been helped by it, so while I'm sure there are difficulties with it and it;s not magic or anything-- you do have to cope with some side effects, they can be often be managed.

Eleanor,

Come join me on the PB main board, I just started Emsam yesterday and we can support eachother through this. Stopped Cymbalta 1 week ago and take Seroquel 100 mg (missed dose last night and feel fine) but may try and stop that after awhile.
