They will, of course.
I saw a map of the existing wells in the Gulf. There were around 3,000. I remember there were 3 sectors.
The good news is that the USA, parts of Europe and China will (start to) do something about carbon fuel dependence and climate change. Australia won't though. Not now.
We had our chance and the moment has passed. Perhaps the coal industry is too strong and controls policy in the major parties.China is doing most. I suppose that may be considered as 'following two courses at once'? Make sure there's no ambitious agreement at Copenhagen and then full speed ahead with renewables. Their solar hot water systems alone involve more power than all of Australia uses. Unlike us, the Chinese lack certain impediments to clear thinking and quick action.
But even California. David Mills was a professor of physics at a university in New South Wales. He tried to interest the Howard government in his ideas for large scale solar power generation using huge vats of molten salt as heat stores. Now he's doing it in California.
All Howard wanted was to use nuclear as a wedge against the left. Now, in my opinion, that is no way to run a country, but it is something with which you are more than familiar.
George Bush was exactly the same, using tax cuts and military spending as a means of hobbling future Democratic administrations. So much better to spend the money on the rich and overseas wars than to look after the vulnerable. In good times, you give the rich tax cuts and start wars. In bad times you bail out the big companies and say the deficit is a problem. It speaks for itself. And we end up with a z grade political debate that commentators on ALL sides say is disgracefully inadequate. I shall vote Green.

I read an article this morning with the headline of "reward the rich and punish the rest of us".
I am very disappointed in our administration right now. If LBJ had been in office and he had wanted to "speak" to BP........their a**es would have been in his office at 10 a.m. the next morning. And the work would have gone MUCH faster.
The salt system is very interesting. I'll read up on it later. Right now the Jack Russell terrier is barking at a fly and my friend is hammering on the door trim and bluegrass music is wailing.....no wonder I'm freaking nuts.
Speaking of California, I'm sure you know that Prop 8 was overturned?

You might enjoy "The Life and Opinions of Maf the Dog and his friend Marilyn Monroe", by Andrew O'Hagen.
It's a dog's view of American politics and culture. The bits that have been read out to me have been wonderful.

It's so much easier to hobble the next administration (cut taxes for the rich, start a new war, increase military spending, convince people they are threatened) than to fix the damage once it is done. The well blow out here was similar perhaps, except for the fact that it was not nearly so deep, and it took 3 months to plug too.
Given Christian and Christianist opinion, I think it would be wiser for gay people in partnership to have all the property rights pf marriage with a different name.
Christians with a sense of shame might like to consider abandoning entirely the field of sexuality, given their history and look to how other religions (but perhaps not Islam) handle it.

That of course was not the whole Gulf.
That was just off the coast of the USA.

Now it is all piled on the shoulders of the Democrats and I feel like the ship may be sinking....

> Given Christian and Christianist opinion, I think it would be wiser for gay people in partnership to have all the property rights pf marriage with a different name.I haven't gotten over them not being able to be in the hospital for last life decisions. At least the President fixed that. I can't imagine the fights after one partner dies and the family decides that they are going to take what they had together. I realize I'm painting with a broad stroke but it happened here in my little town.
> Christians with a sense of shame might like to consider abandoning entirely the field of sexuality, given their history and look to how other religions (but perhaps not Islam) handle it.This is hysterically funny! The way it is going for them, I think they should quit and move on to something else..like knitting? Or how about whittling? Little whistles to blow at the rest of us?

I have never been able to grasp the concept of underwater drilling so I'm sure not up on how many wells are there. I will pull a map up and look at it.

I had a subscription to Truth-Out and I don't get it anymore. I'm going to get back on the list.
Thanks, I'm going to show them to my friends.
