Thats what is needed!
A blocking jury
1 post a day blocks, a 3 post a day blocks. adjustments are needed.
voting! its really not that complicated. Could be done by the deputies, if they are willing to take that extra role on. BUT COMMUNICATION is very important, EVERYWHERE in life and babble isn't the exception. The current blocker is not around often, it appears... how is he the appropritate person to make final decisions????

>My toe isn't broken, but I say, "Hurts like a bad word" all the time! I've never, ever heard anyone else say it.
I also say things like "son of a bad word" and "oh, *nasty* word!" Gets my feelings out, hardly ever offends anyone :-)
Thank you for the smile, and that moment of recognition...

A voting system *will* come down to popularity.
And PB isn't about a popularity contest.
It is clear that the current blocking process needs changing, but how to change it is a really difficult thing (remembering that all the current "rules" have come in through problems encountered. None were random "oh I feel like adding this rule").
But, if blocks came down to ho wmany people liked you.. how is that *any* fairer?

We have time and time again here gotten into the subject of popular, "really needs this board" or good contributing folks being, in my opinion, seen differently in terms of the fairness of their PCB's and blocks. I have seen lenency given more often than harshness as a general observation.
I have also noted that more "problematic" posters who receive PCB's or blocks don't appear to receive the circle the wagons behavior. Human nature being what it is, I do think it would come down to liking, disliking, empathy, etc. - without alot of objectivity - if these decisions were based on poster's deciding.
I think while these boards are peer driven but they are not peer run and we know that when we register and agree to terms of use. I think it's pretty clear the behaviors that are expected here and that, in my opinion, is informed consent to adhere or CHOOSE not to and live with the consequences.

Wait a minute!! Ive never heard anyone but me say that!

I kicked a cement wall LOL
It got caught on the leg of a table (Ooooouuuuuuuchhhhy) and then I caught it again within an hour and at that point there was no hope for my toe : (lesson learned: do not run barefoot around table legs

I never thought that either, I imagine they came from big events that required intervention. I guess what Im trying to say, is that, rules etc should continually change and be altered as they appear to have always been on babble... it looks like its time. The jury idea was just a lame suggestion.
But I disagree that it would come down to populatiry. If the deputies were involved in the decision and then had to run it by Bob, seems fair to me. popularity contest never even crossed my mind. I guess because I think of making jury decision based not on the person but on the offence.

> NikkiI just don't see this the same way as you. I would fight for someone I hated if I thought they were being treated unfairly. i would also say that I think somoen who I like should have a stonger punishement. This was thought out very differently in my mind. Not popularity and I do think that it could be done without that issue coming into play as long as people remember it is the offence, not the person. And when it becomes the person, in a case of a disruptive poster, then how would a unanamous vote be influenced by popularity? Everyone would have to feel the same... And it is clear from the involvement on admin that EVERYONEs opinion about things are so very differnet... and people do not appear to be influenced by popularity much when it comes to debating blocks and such.
whatever... I keep saying I need a break, and I really do.

You obviously have much more faith in human nature than I do.
One of the rules of a jury is that *none* of them know the defendent in any way, shape or form. A jury made up of posters here would have some form of relationship with posters being "voted" on.
I agreed changes are needed, but I don't think a voting system is the way forward. I'm not sure what is.. In my time online (way too long.. heavens.. I've been using the "internet" for more than half of my life!) I have seen so many different forms of blocking, and a voting system has always, very quickly, run aground.
I'm not sure how to deal with the problem.. nothing seems practical enough for a site this large. Someone suggested 1 week blocks, except for serious transgressions and repeated blocks. But, how do you determine what a serious transgression is.. there *will* be arguments about that..
If enough people chuck their ideas into the pot though, we will eventually think of a solution!!

If the deputies were involved in the decision and then had to run it by Bob, seems fair to me.The deputies would be the jury, and I could approve their decision or not? I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to that, but discussing each block as a group and voting and running it by me could take a lot of time...
