I just can't belive it...
I mean, I knew that people bullied people about.
But I didn't know that people would actually *violate their own regulations* if the bullying tactics didn't work.
The last VC has stood down. After being VC for 15 years. After the University went from around 66th world ranking to more around 200th.
There was something about a student having a mental health episode, being an inpatient, being raped... Having her enrolment terminated by the University because she didn't let them know in a timely fashion that she was having a mental health episode.
Then, apparently the VC publically stated that he spoke with her healthcare team (not sure under whos authority) and they recommended to him that she have her enrolment terminated and not be allowed to complete her Degree.
She is trying to get to finish her Degree. Since, you know, her parents invested much money in her Degree thus far and it isn't trivial to arrange a transfer to another country to finish the NZ qualification over there (gee, I wonder why not).
That's how f*ck*ng bad things are, here.
The VC earns more than the Prime Minister and there are no VC Scholarships. There is no VC fund to help studnets in need (ie this girl). There is only exploiting others for his own advantage and continued pay increased every year.
It is inhumane.
He had pay increases every year while laying off teaching staff. While closing down libraries.
He hired people incapable of parsing reports of examiners.
He hired people who passed studnets plagarising their lecture slides.
He approved courses that taught students never (under any circumstances) to reference properly (so anybody would know you were capable of referencing properly).
I suppose he kept the studnets examiners reports as trophys.
I think the Auckland process (unofficially circulated via their webpages) is that the reports of the examiners are confidential to the studnets supervisory *panel* and the *panel* decides whether the studnet has done enough or is required to (no surprises here) hand over more money and keep working...
What a f*ck*ng joke.
