I had a friend who lived in the south and he spent winter with his feet in hot water because he thought they had turned numb from the cold.
Later on he was told it was diabetic neuropathy.
Then there is that thing where your extremities are prone to cold. I wear bedsocks to bed except in the hottest months. I feel unsecured without them.
