You have words that we hardly recognise. Do you say 'armoir'(sp?) for cupboard?
What about closet? Does that mean bedroom?
That's positively Shakespearean. Gloucester says 'I have locked it in my closet'.It is one of the interesting things about American English.
Maybe it broke off from English English in the C18 whereas Australian English came away in the C19.
They say Australian English has similarities to English in Essex, which reminds me of the joke Helen Mirren (I think she came from Essex) told at the Oscars.
How can you tell when an Essex girl comes?
