I hope you'll take a look at your feelings about seeing a counsellor. Every single one of us needs help of some kind at some time in our life.
It sounds like you could use some help at this point, & there's nothing wrong with that. I sometimes think that taking the big step to see a counsellor or therapist is a very brave thing to do. So many of us have been raised to think that there's something wrong with wanting or needing help. Actually, I think it takes someone who is insightful, smart, & wise (to name a few) to try seeing a counsellor if they're not feeling the greatest.
Maybe that would help you consider it with more comfort - to look at it as 'checking out' a counsellor.
You're studying psychology. You could view it as a learning experience in how the counsellor carries out a first meeting! Then you could decide if you want to continue & if you go for a second meeting, take that as 'how does the counsellor conduct a second meeting'.
