Deneb, it's always painful when someone says such a thing. Feelings get hurt, even if we know that the accusation is false. I'm sorry that your feelings were hurt, and I'm glad you were able to get over it.
In future, maybe you could try what I've worked on: asking yourself whether the person making the negative comment is someone you respect and/or esteem? Is this someone whose opinion really matters to you? Or is it just upsetting that any person thinks such things of you? Sometimes asking myself that question helps me a lot.
There's something I'd like to have you print out and tape to your mirror, or your bedroom door, or your refrigerator -- wherever you will see it regularly. Just this: Racer believes me.
Then, when someone says something like you're not real, you can look at that and remember that others do believe you.
Of course, that's assuming I count as someone you respect and/or esteem... Guess that's an assumption I shouldn't make, but I'd bet there's someone else here who'd say the same whom you do respect and esteem. So, just ask...
