There is a Sci-fi story by Doris Lessing named:
"Shikasta"
In this story Doris tells us about the making of the planet Shikasta (i.e. the earth).
Her dedication for the book was to her father:For my father, who used to sit, hour after hour, night after night, outside our house in Africa, watching the stars. "Well," he would say, "if we blow ourselves up, there's plenty more where we came from!"
Some people love the book some don't. I was one who not only loved the book but think of it often.
The story goes like this:
The planet had another name till all the other planets around it fell into a difficult alignment and the (earth) got renamed Shikasta= the broken one.
To make a long story short....this appears to be the planet of suffering...we all suffer to learn compassion...just what you are saying.Your dream, desire, longing is shared by many of us on this sweet but suffering planet. You can help teach compassion by doing just what you are doing. Thank you from my soul.
