Let me give you another perspective that may or may not be relevant. I WAS that teenager! It sounds like your family is not living in the same house. I don't know how long this has been the situation. I personally think that my tardiness and being "sick" was a cry for attention that was never heeded the way it should have been. Throwing cold water in my face only made me hate my stepfather more and resent my mother and did NOTHING to change my desire to get out of bed and go to school. Have her feelings around your separation/divorce ever been addressed? Tardiness is a way of expressing anger in a passive/aggressive way. Trust me I did this for a long time in my life until I dealt with my anger. I could be way off and please don't misinterpret my questions as criticism. I just felt an immediate connection when I read your post.
