<<Yeah, it's a bit of a stretch, but back then they really did hold onto the emotions for one another through such absenses. I can relate to it myself, in quite a dysfunctional way. The love story was very similar to one by an Australian writer, Patrick White, called "Voss"
I loved that book, but it's not for realists. There's all kinds of symbolic stuff like conception of a baby even though the woman and man were thousands of miles apart. :-)Susan
