If you are not losing weight from walking, consider increasing the time. I have found (experience) that walking for anything short of 50 minutes does not help me. Once I moved from 30 minutes to an hour, my weight began to fall off.
(Of course, I haven't walked since fall, but I'm doing a 45-minute walk-aerobics video called "Walk Away the Pounds," which I bought for six bucks at Target. It's kind of stupid, but it keeps me stable.)
Anyway, I think the time is the key, so try to bump up your walks to an hour, five times a week. If you can't fit it in, try two half-hour segments. I've heard it works.
I can't imagine being bored from in-line skating. It's the "Wheeeeee!" sport for me. I've been doing it since I got my first pair of skates in 1988. It's harder now that I have a child, but I used to do it five mornings a week, headphones on, dancing. It's still my sport of choice. I have a brand new pair of K2s that are super speedy and comfy. It's a beautiful day today. Hmmmm....
I came in first in my age group in a race once--nine years ago, and I was first because I was 31--one of the youngest in my age group!.
But those days are over. Now I long to be able to get up the steps without panting.
