I have had two sleep studies, both starting much earlier than 10 pm, because lights-out was at 10 pm. The first time, I had a hard time falling asleep that early, because of the unfamiliar environment. But the second time, I prepared myself ahead for the earlier bedtime.

The first one felt rather creepy because it was in a doctors' office building. The lab was the only thing functioning overnight. There were two patients (me and another woman in the next room whom I never saw, but heard), and one sleep tech. It was kind of creepy being so isolated in this situation. The second time, I went to a hospital clinic. There were about 5 other patients, and we all had to watch a video first. There were several sleep techs which felt better, and it felt safer to be in the hospital setting and not alone in some empty office building!

We also were awakened at 5 am, which was ok, because I showered there, then went out to breakfast, and then to work, which was near the hospital.
