Emma,
What frightens you about the programme? Letting others know that you have troubles? That’s why they are there too – to get some help. Most group sessions allow you to reveal as much or as little as you wish. Sometimes, once you feel comfortable and safe with a group, it’s surprising what you might decide to share.
I made some good friends at a six week group therapy session I went through after being hospitalized. I divulged a lot more than I ever expected I would and I got a lot more help in return as well. Not just from the professional help but from the other people with problems just like me.
If you go and find it’s just not for you, can you leave? There’s often a measure of comfort and security in being able to just walk out.
You seem worried about letting out all the things you have held inside. I gather you are young, and as an ‘old guy’ I can tell you that it is much better to deal with these ‘secrets’ sooner than later. I held things in for a lot of years and they just don’t go away.Greg
