I agree - I can't imagine the average client in real life is nearly as confrontation as that.
Only now, after some years, am I finding it possible to reflect in the hear and now about how a comment might have made me feel, and only sometimes - and certainly not with such aggression and defensiveness - it normally has to be coaxed out of me.
Yes, I would and have read my therapists books (not all of them). And they did bring interesting things up but also gave me an idea of what was ok and not ok in the therapy because I knew what had gone before and to some extent how he had reacted. One example, was whether he accepted gifts. I got my answer by reading one of his books.
I wouldn't like it though if I would find myself in one of his books (well, in any case not without prior consent and a pre-reading and careful consideration) and I'm happy he doesn't write novels.
