I have to confess that I am uncomfortable with the application of the generalizations rule in many situations.
It seems to me that generalizations are best addressed by other posters, not by administration. I see the job of administration as providing a civil environment for posters. I do not see generalizations as inherently uncivil. They may be mistaken, they may be correct, but unless they are about a group of people who may feel accused or put down, I don't see the administrative purpose of sanctioning them.
I don't see it as an administrative function to police thought or expression of ideas about medications or equipment. I do see it as an administrative function to try to ensure that posters expressing contrary opinions are not silenced or intimidated. But to me that is a separate issue.
