I think those are all valid points, especially the part about threads dying. And sometimes by the time a thread gets moved, it's sort of older anyway. But sometimes not.
I know sometimes I try to make the post where I put the link to the redirect a bit more personal to make it seem less like somebody did something wrong. But if I'm in a hurry or tired or whatever, they get pretty impersonal, and I can see how that might not feel good at times.
When I redirect, I sort of feel like I'm organizing or doing some basic house-keeping. I'm not thinking "Geesh, I wish these people would figure this out!" or anything like that.
What about when a very short brand new thread gets redirected? If it's not yet had a chance to get going, is that less intrusive?
