I have been weaning off of Effexor now for 2 wks. I am now down to the 37.5 mgs, and, have only noticed some mild brain shivers. I can take some Advil Cold and Sinus medication and it will help with the brain shivers. I go to the Dr on Friday, and, I am going to have him give me some more samples to help me wean off the 37.5 real slow. I can tell that I am feeling a little more emotional, which isn't a bad thing at all. I actually cried while watching the movie "Nell" with Jodie Foster the other night. I just don't want to cry all the time. I hope I stay doing this well for the next few weeks with little withdrawl. I have been scared to death about the withdrawls.

Hi Ginger.Advil Cold and Sinus? Interesting choice. How did you come to choose it?
A lot of people remark that they experience a return of emotions that they had been missing while on SRI antidepressants like Effexor.
It is much better to discontinue Effexor with a gradual taper such as yours. In addition to mitigating withdrawal symptoms, it also gives you a better chance of not relapsing.
Are you going to be using 25mg tablets?
Let us know if you run into trouble.
Good luck.

Hi Scott, well, I just so happened to have the Advil in my cabinet and that is why I took it. It didn't work that well for me yesterday though. I need to get some dramamine. I have taken the Benedryl, but, it doesn't seem to help me that much with the brain shivers. The brain shivers are the main side affect that I seem to be having. I can't stand them!! I would rather have a headache than to have my eyes move in one direction and my brain get there a few milliseconds later. My neck also gets a tingling feeling in it when this happens. Sometimes my heart will race afterward too. I know that this will probably happen for a few weeks even after I am done weaning off of the meds.

I hope things get easier for you as time passes. If things get worse instead of better, please post and I'll pass a few more ideas your way. It seems that you've got everything under control, though.
Good luck.

Today hasn't been very good with the brain shivers. I went and bought some dramamine. I am hoping it will help. The Dr wants me to just come completely off of the Effexor now that I have been taking the 37.5mgs for a week. He said that I can't go any lower and I just need to stop now. I am also having a lot of problems with my hormones due to the fact that I am peri-menopausal. Gosh, it is just grand getting old~
He told me to be prepared for a good 2 wks worth of withdrawl. This is gonna stink!
This is the end of the thread.
