weird head feelings on trying to reduce Lexapro

Posted by JenStar on January 12, 2006, at 0:13:05

hi all,
I'm currently cutting back from 20 mg/day of Lexapro. I'm doing it slowly, and I've taken/come off of Lexapro before without issue.

This time, as I'm tapering off, I'm getting these weird "head rush" kind of feelings. it's hard to describe. It's sort of like my head's in one place, and as my body moves, it stays back, then pops back into place, catching up like a helium balloon on a string. That's how it FEELS, anyway!

It's not really a dizziness exactly. It's more like a "not really here" feeling. Maybe a bit of dizziness.

I kind of hate this. I know it will pass, but I hate it. I hate realizing that this drug really *does* something to my brain, and that it's doing something weird right now, as I type. I was sort of hoping that the drug was a complete placebo, and any effects/SE's were all induced by me.

Anyway...has anyone experienced this head rush thing? Any comments?

thanks!
JenStar

I've had similar head feelings when reducing or stopping doses of lexapro or zoloft. For me I would describe it as a brain jello feeling, almost like my brain was wiggling around the same way jello would in a bowl. Dizziness and mild confusion and hard to concentrate also. An overall feeling of just not being with it. No idea why it happens. For me it took about 10 days for it to pass.

That is common with SSRI's. Brain zaps? I had them the most on decreasing paxil. Was told to go slower. And that worked. Why do you want to cut the dose? Fondly, Phillipa

hi Phillipa,
I've been feeling "good" so I want to see if I can be OK w/out the meds. In general, I'd like to be med-free. So I'm trying it out! Please wish me luck! :)
