That was hysterical!

Stephen took control and drove it right into the ground. Bill looked halfway dimwitted..instead of completely dimwitted.

I loved this and had forgotten about it, as it was a couple years ago now. It was fun to watch it again.

I didn't see anyone as appearing dimwitted to any degree. I guess I'm not sure how that comes into play, as I take it as essentially a comedy routine. I remember viewers did, as there were plenty of letters subsequently, from fans and non-fans of Bill O., and both groups seemed to enjoy the segment. Oh, well, perhaps there's a subtext others see and I don't. I wouldn't be surprised.

I thought they both had a great time and played their "roles" - as themselves or whomever - beautifully. Everyone needs a good straight man from time to time.

I really like Colbert's style of humor, as I rarely, if ever, see meanspiritedness, which turns me off on the right and the left, and everywhere in between.

Wow, I just went back and read a few comments under the video on YouTube. People *did* take this seriously. Of course, it's a tiny sample, so not really representative of anything... Huh.

I don't get it. I've watched Mr. O'Reilly for a few years, several times a week, and you get to know a person's mannerisms, facial tics even - a lot of stuff. I've seen him appear somber, outraged, disgusted, impatient, confused, bemused, arrogant, indignant, annoyed, amused, uncomfortable - and more I can't recall. I've definitely seen him play-acting and being silly-sarcastic, too, like over this past year when he does a segment once a week with Dennis Miller.

Based on this, I really only saw a tongue-in-cheek routine with Mr. ColBEAR (I like the French pronunciation way better, so there, Bill!) - not one serious word. (Although, I would say Bill got mildly impatient at some points, and he was wanting to stay in control. This is par for the course with all guests, though. I always figure, "It's his show.") Television with its close-ups and relentless cameras-on-you, doesn't allow for hiding of much body language or anything. Like that latter part when he yelled 'are you Colbert or Colbear?' - well to me it's clear he's putting on an act - Bill - he could hardly keep from cracking a smile.

Perceptions are so intriguing - they really make you pause and think.

I do like Colbert a lot - I always forget to watch his show, though.

Sometimes I entertain fantasies that some of our politicians and shock jocks are reasonable liberals in private.

This makes the leftist and the emerging paleoconservative in me outraged in equal proportion.

Forgive me, I've had a bad day.

I just got on the computer...10:23.. In my dotage I've taken to sleeping later. I stay up late and watch the talk shows and sleep in..I do have to get up during the night to let "Clementine" out and I sleep an extra 30 minutes for that.:-)

I hope the rest of this 24 hrs goes smoothly for you, Sigismund. Can the day be salvaged or repaired? I hate when one has a bad day.

I go to work at 1:00....

I have decided, regrettably, that some of the dumbest people in the world come into libraries. I hate that! But!! There was a wonderful moment last week when an attractive and articulate young woman wanted to know how to build a chicken coop! I was so thrilled and by the time she left we had built two or three on paper!

I am tracking which books are checked out the most in the mystery genre. It is quite interesting.
