I loved this and had forgotten about it, as it was a couple years ago now. It was fun to watch it again.
I didn't see anyone as appearing dimwitted to any degree. I guess I'm not sure how that comes into play, as I take it as essentially a comedy routine. I remember viewers did, as there were plenty of letters subsequently, from fans and non-fans of Bill O., and both groups seemed to enjoy the segment. Oh, well, perhaps there's a subtext others see and I don't. I wouldn't be surprised.
I thought they both had a great time and played their "roles" - as themselves or whomever - beautifully. Everyone needs a good straight man from time to time.
I really like Colbert's style of humor, as I rarely, if ever, see meanspiritedness, which turns me off on the right and the left, and everywhere in between.
