Heard this one on TV.
'The question every American is wondering about Iraq: How did OUR oil get underneath THEIR sand anyway????'
Heh heh.
I found that pretty funny ;-)

I'm American and when I read that the first time I thought it was pretty funny. Then I read it again and I was offended. If the joke used the American government or Bush I would continue to find it funny. But by saying "every American" it is really untrue. Close to half of the American population has been against the war in Iraq from the beginning. It's not fair to lump all of us into the same category here.

Sorry if people found it offensive.
I saw it on TV.
One of the guys of 'whos line is it anyway?'
The american version. Its a bit like this one:
How can you tell the virgin wool in NZ???
They are the sheep that can run faster than the farmers.I should say that most people here are farmers. Or their parents are / were farmers. Or their parents parents are / were farmers at the very least.
I meant it to be funny
Not offensive
I apologise for any offense.

Hi Alex,I actually meant to address my last post to you, not Gabbix.
I didn't feel angry or upset with you at all for posting the joke! I know you were just repeating a joke you heard that was quite good in some respects. I just wanted to make sure that people outside of the U.S. understand the way many of us here feel.

I had exactly the same thought about replacing Americans with "Bush"
I wasn't trying to be holier than thou' (nor do I think anyone was accusing me of it)
All the Americans I know personally are so passionately against what's going on in Iraq that I actually did feel offended for them. It's such a raw subject. I don't think many people would think it was right to start a joke with
"The question on every East Indians Mind Is"
And I do have a problem with double standards as far as prejudice goes.. I mean either it's unfair or it's not. But my initial reaction was the reason I posted.

That is how I feel.
But, I probably would have kept my fingers shut if I hadn't been mad at you for posting "around me" on admin. :)
Note the date
See, I'm a big loser and my world is far to small..

Oh.
I didn't notice the date :-)
But still, I take the point.
I did mean to be controversial...
But not offensive.
I do appreciate that quite a lot of Americans were disappointed about the Bush situation.
I also appreciate that quite a lot of Bush supporters would not condone that attitude.
I dont' know what to say...
Just trying to be funny...
Sorry peoples.

Oh, How unlike you. :)I don't want to beat your poor joke to death.
It's more what I said that I want to clarify.
Truly, I would not get my shirt in a knot about jokes like your NZ sheep joke. Actually I find it offends me more when people seemingly get off on self righteous outrage.
It was the subject matter, I know Americans who are heartbroken about the suffering in Iraq, and when I heard the joke I didn't think about oil I thought of the violence. I know my point's already been taken.. just trying to explain my reaction is all.
This is the end of the thread.
