I'm American and when I read that the first time I thought it was pretty funny. Then I read it again and I was offended. If the joke used the American government or Bush I would continue to find it funny. But by saying "every American" it is really untrue. Close to half of the American population has been against the war in Iraq from the beginning. It's not fair to lump all of us into the same category here.
