I received an e-mail this weekend that apparently bounced through the Dr. Bob servers as the mail was addressed to both his edu addy and the org addy. This piece of mail was addressed from a blocked poster.
I wrote to Dr. Hsiung regarding this matter. His response could be interpreted that he lacks belief in this possibility. In fact I think the gist was "it doesn't look like it was sent to you at all."
I'm glad my ISP takes this type of unwelcome intrusion more seriously than the administration of this website.
Did anyone else receive spam this weekend from a blocked poster? Saturday morning I received an e-mail in a hotmail account that I used to use as my registration addy here. I used this addy in PB Open as well for years but recently unjoined so it shouldn't be available unless someone has access to the addresses for registration here, right?
Anyone have any ideas as to what happened to make a mail appear to have come from a poster and mailed to THIS site's addresses YET show up in MY hotmail inbox??
Thank you to any computer whizes in advance. This is no laughing matter and will be dealt with through the appropriate channels (Microsoft, my ISP and eventually the administration here as their addys were on this mail)

Some email programs have the possibility of sending out 'blind cc's. In other words there is the normal option of cc-ing *and* the option of bcc-ing. A bcc will not show the addressee on the cc line.
Unless this site and the edu site were on a 'from' part of the email, it shouldn't have come through here. But it would have gone to those emails at the same time it came to you.
Does this make sense?

Keeping in mind that the idea here is not to post anything that could lead others to feel accused or put down, could you please rephrase that? Thanks,
Bob

Ok.
Your FAQ lacks a section about receiving e-mails from blocked posters so forgive me for not knowing how to proceed in the Dr. Bob way....
I am grateful that my ISP considers unwelcomed e-mail a harassment and prosecutes when appropriate. This administration, based on its actions and words, does not appear to share that concern about harassment.
However ONLY Dr. Hsiung knows what goes on in the minds of this administration. I would NEVER presume to speak for him/them.

P.S. I would like for you to keep in mind that your e-mail to me was in violation of your very civility guidelines. Might I remind you of these things for next time we correspond? Keeping in mind that the idea here is not to post anything that could lead others to feel accused or put down.... Thanks Dr. Bob. This is a two way street and your behaviour counts too.

People who are blocked from posting are blocked from posting, not from sending email.
> This administration, based on its actions and words, does not appear to share that concern about harassment.
Sorry, but keeping in mind that the idea here is not to jump to conclusions about others, could you please rephrase that? Thanks,
Bob

>>>Your FAQ lacks a section about receiving e-mails from blocked posters
>People who are blocked from posting are blocked from posting, not from sending email.Dr. Hsiung,
Are you saying that you support blocked posters harassing other members of this site through e-mail since you don't specifically have anything about it in your FAQ?? Or that you are not concerned with the consequences of your administrative actions on the posting population?
Either way I lack the ability to do your verbal gymnastics. I think Kali was the best thing to cross this site. She is a pro in the communication field and even she could barely get around your civility minefield.
I'll let this drop and take this up with you and my ISP in private.

In that case, the last time you were blocked, it was for 24 weeks, so this time, it's for 48.

It just looked to me as if the final post was a withdrawal of prior posts, which I suppose is not exactly a restatement...

Did I miss something myself? I didn't see anything that sounded even like a withdrawal of prior posts.
