I read the message on admin about the beginning of a new forum and immediately thought about 'back when' the board was in an uproar and people were getting hurt by other posters, leaving...and A Safe Haven.
Does this sound familiar, Greg? I remember when you started that group and going to ASH because it WAS safer than what was happening. It was a real surprise to see the same thing happen again. But, it makes sense, too.

Dr. Bob must be collecting some interesting material over time re' the behavior of pb populations. I wonder what kind of frequency this cycle of starting new boards will take.

I remember that quite well too, and almost brought it up in my last thread. I also am curious how it's going- I guess I got the impression it was for a few people who got quite close here and wanted to stay in touch with each other (without the threat of 'unwanted' visitors). Take care, judy

MIC,
Ah, the good ol' days...
I had in fact been thinking about the same thing, but was wondering why it had taken so long. I think it's a natural transgression that when you feel that your rights or your safety is threatened you first seek justice, and in the absence of justice, perceived or otherwise, you seek "a safe haven".
If those that have chosen to leave have in fact started their own site, I say more power to them. When I started ASH it was a life saver for me. As you know, like many of the people leaving now I didn't feel safe here then but I still desperately needed a support system. And when I think of the friendships that developed out of that, you, Tina, Cam, Alli, Nikki, just to name a few, it really was a blessing in disguise.
I don't often agree with the choices that Bob makes, and that's OK, I don't have to, it wasn't part of the quiz. But two things I do know for sure, running a site like this is a no-win situation, and I don't want the job.
Greg

Still up and running Judy. It's a yahoo group and most of us are still there supporting eachother. It's still a very safe environment.

I'm just not so good at swimming up from the bottom of the tar pit to do much of anything anymore. I think of ASH often and fondly--esp. at the beginning when we were refugees, and so bonded. Most of the emails I write these days (except for here) are requests that friends don't hold my silence against me, that it seems to take so much energy to write.
Plus, as far as "friend" emails go, it is so hard to talk to someone about the symptoms of depression when they haven't experienced it. We all know that one, I think. It's like I can't find my 'happy place' to write a happy email from. I know some people take my silence as a sign of disinterest, and it's not that at all. It's the 'walking through molasses' and paralysis that makes it feel overwhelming to send a cheery note.
BTW, your post on social--wow, I don't recall hearing about that experience you had in school before (however, I may have heard and forgotten it because my memory sux so bad). That is very heavy duty, and must have been pretty terrifying dealing with it alone (before you got some assistance). Whew!
I sure wish we could all find a med or a path or a device that would bring us relative calm and contentment! Here's to us, I guess, for surviving, eh?

Judy,
Initially it was for people who were feeling unsafe on this board, but the threat was more from other posters then. After a while, when things calmed down, it became somewhat more social. And, one thing I like for the purpose of the ASH group, is that new members are known to at least one active member of the group. I think that has helped very much to keep it feeling safe.Shar

> SharYeah, it was THE most horrible time of my life. I think that's about when my life actually ended. "Surviving" is all I do now and it just isn't enough, you know? I just keep wondering when I'm going to get my life back.
If I discover the 'super pill' you'll be the first to know :')
This is the end of the thread.
