In reply to Unexpected Nardil Withdraw Symptom, posted by yonniman on June 11, 2008, at 16:42:43
Hello yonniman,
Well, I experienced something similar. I was forced to stop Nardil quite quickly (75mg to 0mg in a week), because of a complicated situation that I have explained on the medication board recently. On my first Nardil free day, my blood pressure shot up to 190/110, and I developed a serious condition called Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy syndrome. I strongly believe this was caused by Nardil withdrawal, although my pdoc disagrees. Before Nardil, I was pre-hypertensive, with an average BP of 130/80. Now (only 6 months later), after stopping Nardil over 6 weeks ago, my untreated BP averages 140/90. I have no explanation for it, but my experience is somewhat similar to yours. Sorry I can't be of more help.

> Because of the possibility of elective surgery, I decided (with my Pdoc's supervision) to wean from nardil (30mg) after 20 years. I was taking Nardil for panic disorder. I did a several week wean and 2 week washout. I felt very ill through the entire process. I then tried Effexor, but couldn't take the GI side effects. I'm now on Lexapro. The unexpexted Nardil withdraw symptom was a secondary hypertension. This has continued now into my 6th week off Nardil. My regular physician had to put me on Atenolol 50mg to get it under control. Has anyone ever experienced this or know how long it may last?
