Withdrawal from Ocassional Klonopin Use

Posted by anon2006 on December 27, 2005, at 8:49:46

For the past 3 years or so, I have take Klonopin "as needed" for panic and anxiety, usually .5 or 1 mg. There were times I'd go for weeks, months even without taking it. Lately I've been taking it more frequently, about 1.5 mg. About 2 weeks ago my pdoc said to split the 1.5 into 3 doses. I told her I couldn't function during the day on it, so only took it at night. The last 2 weeks or so, I've noticed drastic mood changes, hostility, poor judgment, etc. This past holiday weekend, I did up my dose on my own just from "holiday depression" and being alone. She now says we have to wean me off of it and to take 1 mg a night for the next week until she gets back from vacation.

I've never taken it on a consistent basis and I'm afraid to start doing this to wean off. How does that make any sense?

Is it ok to just stop taking it altogether? She also suggested I start taking Lexapro again (which I took for a really long time until I figured out it was making me hypomanic-not my doctor). Don't know if I trust her judgment.
