My son visits this ant nest in a stump up the road. Red ants that sting! We've observed them since he was three, so for over eight years they've been chewing this stump to dust. There was a red-eared slinder turtle that visited my childhood property. Every year he came. When I was 49 my father said he found him dead. Imagine his long life in our woods and everyone's, innocent of property lines.
I do remember and thank you for asking because I haven't thought about this for sometime. The ant stump is the only free place my son has been. I like to think he has space to roam in his mind; I've tried to preserve this for him.
I would leave my house and walk as far as I could, all day walking and poking stuff with a stick or finding coke bottles to redeem for a nickel (there's my age revealed). Only lunchtime and supper shaped the time.
I love Bon Iver. I'll try to repay in kind :-) Do you know Patrick Watson?
