> Reality Therapy teaches that no matter what someone has been through in their childhood, they can suddenly choose different behavior and focus solely on the here and now. This leaves the grieving child inside the adult survivor feeling unheard. Unless a person knows why they are suffering and are given the tools to transmute past trauma, no amount of positive thinking will help them.I'm not sure what reality therapy is or how it works. But any therapy must eventually get people to focus on the here and now and learn to cope in the moment. My p-doc spent the first few months going over past trauma and encouraging me to grieve, but after that, he encouraged me to learn coping skills so I could function. He didn't believe in going over and over the past and I felt he was right in this.
