The Springbok tour here was so big in what was it? 74 or so? State of Emergency declared by one premier. I recall being taught how in apartheid each colour had its own territory with some of the best land in Transvaal reserved for blacks. Since we could not even claim that, we had no trouble seeing South Africa as like us (and vice versa). Which was why the Springbok tour was so important, to say no. Not that we managed to do much about it here. We still have Australia Day, there is still Columbus Day.
I was interested in how, after his release from jail, an exact replica of his prison accommodation was created for him, down to the position of the light switches. And he liked his papers neat and parallel. 27 years in prison is a long time. I don't know if there have been too many like him. He is said to have preferred Nehru to Ghandi.
