No, I'm there now. In Cusco.
My physio had an intern (I guess you would call her) from California and we were making sense of my symptoms in English and talking about being here and I said I liked the Peruvian culture because it was soft and gentle, and not competitive like Australia, and she said "Then you wouldn't like the US', to which I agreed.
There is this reserve and hardness in the culture I come from, a sink or swim kind of thing, it's so cold. I feel it most at parties, which are simply the sorts of thing I should avoid.
Speaking of that sink or swim thing, that is why, when I was at school, I could not get outraged by the sexual abuse thing. After all if your parents are prepared to let you drown to prove you can be a man, what's a little sexual abuse on top?
I think that outlook, sink or swim, is so terrible, especially when applied to your own children.
