I think your wife is an adult, and it's respectful to allow her to make her own choices about what's best for her. I'd be very *unhappy* if my husband made decisions "in my best interests" without consulting me. Perhaps especially if he was feeling depressed and hopeless.

I think the others are right. You need to talk to her about your thoughts.
