It was felt in Toronto and region, too. I was asleep, also, so it passed unnoticed by me.

The fault is called the New Madrid fault. There was a very large earthquake in 1812, which some believe to be the strongest ever in the continental U.S., probably Richter 8.0 or so. It so rearranged the landscape that lakes were created, the Mississippi changed course in a number of places, and temporarily reversed flow. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Madrid_Earthquake
