I had to laugh -- I know you mean convection oven, but seeing confection oven made me laugh...
Convection ovens move air around to bake more quickly and evenly. Microwaves use radiation. They're different technologies, so there are different rules. For microwaves, there are certain sorts of metals that are OK, but only in certain situations, and since we don't know exactly what those are, it's much safer to say "NO METALS!"
Convection ovens are fine with metal.
So, it depends on what sort of appliance this really is...
