It's as you say.
But it feels to me as if there is something comforting in pessimism. I don't think the solution is to 'make' myself be optimistic.
I suppose (if you believe things easily) you can (like me) tell yourself that you have plumbed the depths (various historical periods, Jerry Springer).In a sense (to talk about myself) it has been important to mourn most of my life.
It would have been nice to have been happier, but at least I have found a way of tolerating being me.Sometimes though, I feel I am looking at agitated depression (like my mother had) and that really frightens me, because it feels bottomless.
