Well, here's the best instructions I could find.
1. rinse out gourd from last time
2. stick in the straw (bombilla)
3. I fill the gourd up about halfway with yerba. It looks like dried grass, and is kind of powdery. I add about a half teaspoon of fructose (I'm sure sucrose is fine too, but I happen to have fructose at home right now) Sometimes I add a peppermint tea bag or a little curl of orange peel for aroma.4. Then I use hot water (not boiling, but perhaps 90 centigrade) and carefully pour it down the bombilla. The idea is to get the hot water in the bottom of the gourd and let the yerba float on top of it. Apparently the first sip is the "fool's mate" and the tea master has to drink this one (kind of has a lot of sludge in it).
5. After a few sips, I notice that I need to refill my gourd. (repeat 4, above).
6. After about 5 refills, the brew is kind of watery. time to start over.

I find it stimulating and relaxing. astringent and bitter, but I like it. Maybe it helps keep my appetite in check. I feel less hungry since I returned, but that may also be my system adjusting from white bread, butter and red meat to a more veggie and fruity and whole grainy diet.-Ll
