> You also wrote,[...does Gatsby go by Gatsby or Gatz?...].
> Well, Gatz was a character in Fitzgerald's work, who changed his name to Gatsby. The name change is very significant as to Fitzgerald's masterpiece. But to try to answer your question, if one was talking with Fitzgerald about the book, if you are saying that you are wondering if he would use Gatz or Gatsby when referring to him, that would depend on what was the topic of discussion. In my converstaion there, when the aspect of antisemitism was discussed , he used Gatz. When the other aspects were discussed, he used Gatsby.I see. Thanks for clearing that up :)
> There was much more in our discussion, and perhaps discussing it here instead of by email could be appropriate.
> LouThat sounds great, because I'm an inconsistent e-mailer. What else did you guys talk about? Did Lincoln get involved at all? Gatsby seems like a character that might help inform Lincoln about some of the consequences of his policies?
I'm woefully ignorant- when did FSFiztgerald live?
And I always wonder what happens to East Egg when the autumn comes and all the summer folks move back to the city.
