Don't mind me, I just have to post this to get it out of my system.
Argh, ever get annoyed at misinformation?
I just read a posting by someone saying that malnutrition can cause weight gain, i.e. get fat. This person used the example of starving children with huge bellies.
What these children are suffering from is Kwashiorkor syndrome. There children are NOT fat! These children are so protein deficient that their blood plasma proteins are way low. The osmotic pressure inside their blood vessels falls leading to increased filtration to the lymphatic system. This causes an imbalance because the lymphatic system cannot drain the fluid fast enough and the result is edema. Most of the fluid finds it's way to the belly and that's why they have huge bellies.
I don't expect anyone to just know this, but I can't stand people writing about stuff that they don't really know about.
I didn't want to register over there at that other site just to post this, so I'm posting it here to get it out of my system. LOL
