I think many people lack an understanding of what medication can and cannot do for them. This is not their fault, of course. It occurs because there is a lack of patient education by psychiatrists and psychologists. These professionals, themselves, often find it difficult to grasp the dynamics between brain and mind as they are virtually inextricable. A medication can help regulate affect, but it cannot regulate family dynamics. If one remains depressed because dysfunctional family dynamics remain unresolved, despite treatment with antidepressant medication, this is to be expected.
