For me, it's when someone's doing something embarrassing or about to be made a fool of. Violence is nothing compared to that. (Aren't I warped?) This just happened watching "Herbie Fully Loaded".
I use Fast Forward on my DVD player. If I turn on the subtitles, I can still read them at the 2x speed. It's not a perfect fix, but when stuff gets too intense like that, I FF through it.
