I have SUCH a longing for politicians to be true statesmen. What has happend to us? Am I being too idealistic?
On the Newshour tonight there was a discussion among academics on this question. They said that Franklin Roosevelt had news conferences twice a week in the midst of the depression, and during WW II. The public knew things were bad, the president admitted the facts and offered hope and solutions, not some dogmatic come and get us response.
These days we get excuses, buck passing...I fear we have have lost something, something that at one time was admired by the rest of the world. I may be blocked for this post, so be it.
Can we just tell the truth?
warm regards, Jake
